  • Guilford Day
Guilford Day has been an annual event for many years and plans are underway for 2017. Its theme, "Artfully Yours," showcases a variety of art forms including dance, art, storytelling, music, photography, crafts, vendors, garage sales, food and theater for all ages. The date this year is July 22nd and takes place along Main Street (route 35) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the hamlet of Guilford.

2016 was a very successful year for Guilford Community Day. Plans are underway for popular attractions to return again this year include the horse-and-buggy ride, painting class, Oxford Community Band, on-the-street artist, "Taken in Guilford" photography contest, Guilford Historical Society's What's It, palm reading, jewelry making, actors portraying historical Guilford figures, Jericho Arts Council's elementary art show, BG teachers' association book giveaway, balloon artist, stamp cancellation, and stuff-a-bus school supply collection. There is something for everyone and all ages.

There are new and exciting attractions for 2017: line dancing with instruction; Jim Dorn, folk singer; a walking-tour brochure; narrated horse-drawn trolley; animals from the Delaware Valley Humane Society; stories from the town historian's new book, River Hamlets; a photography workshop; yoga class; and a kids' art workshop.

The Guilford Day has been successful due to the dedication of the committee and volunteers who assist with planning and on the day of the event. We seek to increase involvement of area businesses with representation on the committee, as well as bring new people from the area to serve as event day volunteers and/or committee members.
It takes many hands to plan, set up, and oversee this annual event and your assistance is desperately needed. Please call Kathy at 607-316-2722 and let her know how you can help keep this annual event going strong.
There will be a Free Rabies Clinic held at the Guilford Town Garage located at 223 Marble Road, Guilford on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
New York State Public Health Rabies Law requires all dogs, cats, and domesticated ferrets to receive immunization against Rabies no later than 4 months of age and NYS Ag & Markets requires dogs to be licensed no later than 4 months of age.
If your dog, cat, or ferret is not currently vaccinated against rabies and is involved in biting an individual, it must be confined for 10 days at an approved facility at the owner's expense. If the animal is currently vaccinated and involved in a bite incident, it may be confined for the 10 day period at home. If your animal is bitten by or exposed to a rabid or suspected rabid animal and is currently immunized, a vaccine booster dose must be administered within 5 days. If unvaccinated, the animal must be adequately (approval required) quarantined for 6 months in accordance with Public Health Law.
When attending a rabies clinic, animals must be under control. Dogs must be on a leash. Cats should be transported in a box, crate, pillowcase, or other container. Animals vaccinated for the very first time must be re-vaccinated the following year to qualify for 3-year coverage at that time. Please bring the previous vaccination record to verify if your pet is eligible for 3-year coverage.
